Joint design of communication, sensing, action needs, and coordination configurations for a multi-drone system for Post-Earthquake Search and Rescue(SAR) applications represents the novelty of this project. We will design and implement communication and coordination algorithms to enable self-organized teamwork within UAV swarms for real-time data delivery to Disaster Management entities and behavior-adaptation based on observations of on-board-sensors/human-operators. This novel design will allow full exploitation, interoperability, and cooperation of the distributed resources available to communication and coordination.
Project focuses on
(1) jointly-optimized communication, coordination and sensing for multi-UAV systems;
(2) deep learning and computer vision based data processing, object detection and classification;
(3) adaptive multi-UAV path-planning algorithms to minimize SAR mission time and network protocols to support team behaviour as well as disaster victims.
(4) small-scale experimental testbed development
