Beyza Şat, Ph.D. is specialized on the subjects of landscape ecology, landscape analysis, zoning conservation areas, plant compositions and determining hotspots on natural lands. Dr. Şat obtained her B.Sc. as top of her class from the Istanbul University, Forestry Faculty, Landscape Architecture Department in 1999; then she orderly obtained her M.Sc. in 2002 and Ph.D. in 2009 from Science Institute of Istanbul University. Her Ph.D. thesis was on the subject of Landscape Ecology with the title “Landscape Analysis for the Ecological Planning at the Example of Kazdagi National Park”, which proposed zoning plans of Kazdagi National Park by considering the balance of usage and conservation based upon landscape analysis results.

After a short period experiment in a large construction firm’s landscape architecture department, she worked as a research assistant at Istanbul University, Forestry Faculty, Landscape Architecture department between the years 2000-2009. She experienced managing projects, conducting research studies, writing essays and articles, conducting board studies on establishment of arboretums and botanical gardens and international or national congresses and seminars.

Dr. Şat has experience of teaching over a span of 15 years on subjects of landscape design and planning, landscape ecology, plant material, planting design in both private and public universities. She has worked as visiting scholar at Toledo University, Environmental Sciences Department, in 2014. She has received the visiting faculty award of Toledo University with the proposal titled “The Relation between Environmental Protection Conscious and Plant Identification in Urban Parks”. She has also been a professional member of IALE (International Association of Landscape Ecology) and IUFRO (International Union of Forest Research Organizations). She has been working as an assistant professor in Architecture and Design Faculty of Ozyegin University since 2013.

Research areas: Landscape ecology, Landscape analysis, Plant compositions, Zoning of conservation areas.

Doğa Dinemis Aman, Ph.D. is a landscape architect graduated from Istanbul Technical University (ITU) with diploma prize in 2011. She obtained her Master’s Degree from ITU Graduate School of Science, Engineering and Technology Department of Landscape Architecture in 2013 on children playground and continued her doctoral studies in the same department. In 2016, she has worked as a visiting researcher at Wageningen University on disaster management. She completed her PhD thesis in 2019 on public open space and disaster relief. She worked as a research assistant in ITU Department of Landscape Architecture between the years 2011-2019 and assisted graduate and undergraduate courses. Kaan Özgün, Ph.D. is a research landscape architect with a depth of expertise in interdisciplinary design research, teaching, and practice. He completed his undergraduate studies in Landscape Architecture and Urban Design at Bilkent University. He continued his studies in Germany and received his MLA from Anhalt University of Applied Sciences. Prior to working in university, Kaan practiced as a landscape architect in diverse urban context in Australia, Germany, Netherlands and Turkey. He commenced his PhD in 2011 at the Queensland University of Technology (QUT) in Australia and created a design framework for renewable energy usage in public spaces. He completed a design-led thesis in 2015 nominated for the university doctorate outstanding thesis award. He developed and coordinated undergraduate design studios and M.Arch. research selective courses both at QUT and University of Queensland (UQ)in Australia. He was recently employed as a post doctorate research fellow for two-years under the auspices of Collaborative Research Centre for Water Sensitive Cities (CRCWSC) at the University of Queensland where he developed flood-drought planning and design strategies for an urban catchment in collaboration with the Brisbane City Council. Using the principles of landscape ecology, mapping and cartography, his applied method established the foundation for further architectural design studies. His ongoing interdisciplinary design research investigates the development of resilient and productive urban landscapes in which energy, food, water, waste, and information be integrated into urban environment through smart and ethical design processes for inclusive and sustainable solutions. His published work structured around the narrative of urban renewable energy infrastructure, catchment green infrastructure planning and design, and sustainability. His research methods includes in-depth case studies and content analysis using qualitative research methods including site observations, interviews with experts and public space user surveys as well as advanced GIS spatial analyses.

Research areas: Landscape ecological urbanism theory and practice, productive urban landscapes, landscape spatial analysis, GIS and mapping, design research methods
