In 2010, she completed her master’s degree in Landscape Architecture at Istanbul University in 2007 and her master’s degree in Urban Design at ITU. Her master’s thesis focused on ecological urban design and planning principles. Within the scope of her PhD studies, she developed an innovative resilience assessment method based on network theory for rural regional downsizing and development. During this period, she was a visiting researcher at Hafencity University of Hamburg for two years. She also participated in TÜBİTAK-1001 projects on ecological resilience planning, spatial data analysis, rural identity analysis and participatory planning at ITU. She has received national and international awards in the fields of urban design and landscape architecture. Currently, she has worked on data analysis and visualization and taught “Disaster Resilient Urban and Architectural Design” course at Isik University

Staring into the Void: a human geographer’s perspective on extractive landscapes

Her research investigates the interplay of power and storytelling in resource and energy futures, with a focus on nonhuman and nonliving agencies and materialities, volumetric geographies, and particulate and chemical knowability. Her current project interrogates how the principle of the common heritage of mankind is practiced in relation to the seabed in international waters.

Murmurs from the Underworld: Geologic Urbanisms and Futures

Seminar by Shaun Rosier

Biography: Shaun Rosier is a landscape architectural designer-researcher and educator at Virginia Tech’s School of Design. He previously taught at and received his practice-based PhD in Landscape Architecture from Victoria University of Wellington (2021), where he focused on documenting design techniques that made aesthetic encounters with the sublime concrete and designable. His current research grapples with developing and documenting approaches to landscape design that are strongly suited to giving expression to landscape encounters, and experience of the material of landscape.

LANDSCAPE RESEARCH LAB

The Landscape Research Lab (LRL) at ÖzÜ produces theoretical and applied research platform that facilitates the design for all manner of sustainable landscape at the urban and rural environment. LRL handles the determination of landscape characteristics, landscape components and elements in a holistic way. Natural, semi natural or totally manmade characteristics of landscape are the subjects of the research for future developments to promote healthy communities and challenge epistemological capacities of the subject area. Thus, LRL aims to work collaboratively to search the contemporary strategies on the relationships between natural environment and the specificities of built infrastructure via education, interdisciplinary research, and innovation for the research areas and their sub themes.
