Research in our lab studies the human language system and its relation to cognition using developmental, cross-linguistic and multimodal approaches. To address these issues we study multiple populations (children, adults), speakers of different languages (Turkish, English, Dutch, Turkish Sign Language), using various methods (behavioral experiments, eye-tracking, linguistic tasks and gestures). Our goal is to establish which aspects of human cognition are universally shared and which aspects might be shaped by cross-linguistic and cross-modal diversity.
